Philips launches Cloud TV with access to hundreds of channels

In a lot of ways, the inside of a 4K Ultra HD TV is a lot like the inside of a high-end computer. The difference is that 4K Ultra HD TVs still have to be quiet, thin and energy conscious. At IFA 2013 , Panasonic showed off a stunning 65-inch Smart VIERA TX-L65WT600, the worlds first Ultra HD TV with a 4K 50/60p input that has HDMI 2.0 and conforms with DisplayPort 1.2a specifications. The TV's specs future-proof the device and ensure it will work with future compatible 4K-players, set-top boxes and next-generation gaming consoles. The TV offers up to 60 frames per second of 4K playback, making the TV an excellent choice for consumers and professionals alike for whom picture quality is imperative.
Source:

Will the fall TV season be less gay?

"And people are always going to have an appetite for that, especially as more of the silly, looser, cheaper stuff is being screened." And much of what is on FKR.TV is silly and loose, but the channel's shows possess the blissed-out levity that comes with artistic freedom, and most contain some real laugh-out-loud moments. Of particular note is one of FKR.TV's newest shows, called "Law of the Land," which was co-created by and stars actress/comedian Ali MacClean as nymphomaniac CIA officer Phoebe Rose Quackenberry. A spoof-a-minute cross between "Homeland" and "24," the debut episode of "Law of the Land" finds Quakenberry trying to foil a Bahamian terrorist plot to bomb the Hatchet Body Spray Factory. PHOTOS: Hollywood Backlot moments As Quackenberry tries to make out with a suspect she is interrogating, he says the Bahamians hate Americans because of their "beer-can hats and fuchsia Crocs, stinking up our beaches with your Hatchet body spray." Another show called "Buyer's Remorse" follows the demonic heartache experienced by a washed-up pop star who buys a house that ends up being haunted a la "American Horror Story." Although FKR.TV is just beginning to spread its wings, Butler and Cross said they have high hopes for what it can accomplish, and believe they can ultimately produce shows on a level with Ben Stiller 's Yahoo Web series "Burning Love," which was nominated for an Emmy and was picked up by E! for a TV run. "It's just a bunch of guys in the office at this point," said Cross, who is curating and soliciting much of the content, mainly from friends. "We don't have the time or personnel to sift through all those [blind submissions] yet." TV Makers Track What Viewers Watch Seeking Access to Ads

CBS also withheld out-of-home rights for the broadcast network from Time Warner Cable, allowing the network to sell them exclusively to an online player, people with knowledge of the situation said. Our landscape is changing drastically and rapidly, with sales to Netflix or Amazon more important, Moonves said. We are greatly relieved that our hands are not tied. Disney has taken a different approach with its Watch ABC application, which allows streaming of live TV to customers of pay-TV providers including Comcast Corp., Charter Communications Inc. and AT&T Inc.s U-verse. While mobile rights arent separated, they increase the value of programming.
Source:

"It is important that our stories get out there and TV is one of the best ways to do that." When NBC's comedy "The New Normal" premiered last fall, it was heralded by the LGBT community for its plot about a gay male couple trying to have a baby. David Wiegand, the San Francisco Chronicle's TV critic, noted that while that show didn't catch on with fans, NBC Entertainment Chairman Bob Greenblatt said at the Television Critics Association summer press tour that he didn't believe the gay characters on the show turned away viewers. Rather, as NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke pointed out, audiences are less patient these days in terms of giving a struggling series time to catch on. "The takeaway for all of this is that in 2013, there can be a "New Normal" and it can fail, despite brilliant writing and performances, and there can be a 'Sean Saves the World,' which may fail or catch hold," Wiegand wrote. Kane said there are some bright spots in the upcoming broadcast TV season, including returning LGBT characters on shows like "Glee," the aforementioned "Modern Family" and "Grey's Anatomy." He said there is greater racial diversity among LGBT characters this year, including Aisha Hinds as half of an interracial lesbian couple on CBS' "Under The Dome" and Andre Braugher portraying a gay police captain on Fox's new cop comedy "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" starring "Saturday Night Live" alum Andy Samberg. "There will also be an increase in the role for Alex Newell on 'Glee' where he plays the transgendered student 'Unique' which we're very excited about as 'Unique ' will become the only trans regular on television, if you don't count Netflix," Kane said. GLADD recently put out the Studio Responsibility Index , which found that, with the exception of a handful of movies like "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" and "Pitch Perfect," most big films lack any significant LGBT presence.
Source:

Ad Premium The technology from both Cognitive and Gracenote scans pixels on connected screens almost continuously to determine, for example, what a viewer is watching and where in the program they are. A pizza chain could theoretically ask for an ad insertion at a commercial break to offer 10 percent off to viewers near its shops, and LG could tie in Skype calling so the person never leaves the couch. Proceeds, after the networks share, would be divided between the software companies and TV makers. Because so-called dynamic advertising can be better targeted to the individual, some advertisers are willing to pay a premium of as much as 25 percent above traditional television advertising , according to Ooyala, a Mountain View , California-based company that analyzes video data. While the technology could threaten traditional ads, companies that pursue a multiple-device approach and seek to coexist with existing ad systems have the best chance of success, Gracenotes White said. When you have content and context-aware devices, the reality is you can do a lot more to hyper-target consumers and give them information they care about, White said.
